Artist statement
Hi, I’m Iveta and I make things because I don’t really know how not to. My practice grew out of a slightly chaotic life of moving between countries, film sets, studios, strange places, and new obsessions. Painting is where all that noise turns into something tangible, instinctive, physical, and a bit unruly. I care about colour, time, memory, human connection, and those small moments that make being alive feel extraordinary. I don’t want to overexplain them. I’d rather make something that stops you for a second and makes you feel. If my work adds a bit more beauty or aliveness to the world, that’s enough for me.
My practice explores the way time is felt rather than measured — through memory, attention, movement and the fleeting moments that interrupt the rhythm of everyday life.
Working primarily with painting, alongside moving image and spatial practice, I am interested in what happens when we slow down enough to notice what is usually overlooked. My paintings develop intuitively: acrylic allows for immediacy and instinct, while oil stick introduces a slower, more deliberate line. This tension between spontaneity and control mirrors the way memories are formed, altered and revisited.
Rather than illustrating specific experiences, I use colour, gesture and abstraction to translate their emotional residue. The work is ultimately concerned with presence — with making something intangible briefly physical, and creating a space in which the viewer might stop, look, and feel time differently.
